Buds & Berries

Ladies Only!   Bridal shower…Special girlfriend’s birthday…Engagement?   I am sure we can find a special occasion to celebrate with our female friends.   Pull out your pretty, lace tablecloth and delicate crystal.   We are going to have a girl’s night.

Use those empty milk bottles to make a cute centerpiece. Group the desired number together and attach with a pretty ribbon. Place a singe bloom in each bottle.

In celebration the end of his long winter, I am going to use “Buds & Berries” as our featured fragrance.  This is my personal favorite.  If you haven’t tried it, put it on your list.  You will not be disappointed.

Our cocktail is so pretty, fresh, and fragrant.  It includes fresh berries crushed with citrus and mixed with vodka and St-Germain.  If you do not have a bottle of St. Germain in your bar, I urge you to add it.  It is produced in the artisanal manner from elderflower blossoms that are gathered from the hillside in the French Alps during a short period in the spring.  The picked buds are bicycled to a collection point where they are quickly macerated to preserve their fresh flavor.  Just a splash adds a delicious floral note to wine and cocktails.

A fresh mini croissant served with butter stirred with crushed, fresh strawberries, and a touch of honey is a perfect pairing.

Simply cutting the crusts off a soft bread elevates them to party worthy status when they are cut into triangles and spread with a delicious spread.  How about a cheese spread or ham salad?

Buds & Berries Cocktail

  • 2 thin slices lime
  • 6 fresh blueberries

  • fresh mint spring
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce St. Germain (elderflower liqueur)
  • ½ ounce simple syrup*
  1. Using a muddler or handle of a wooden spoon, mash the lemon, lime, berries and mint in a pitcher. Stir in the vodka, St. Germain and simple syrup. Pour over ice in a cocktail glass.
  2. *To make simple syrup, combine ½ cup sugar and ½ cup water in a small saucepan. Heat until sugar is dissolved. Cool and chill.

Dig out that favorite chicken salad recipe or stop by the deli.  Freshen it up with fresh grapes and some toasted almonds.  Serve it in an endive leaf or simply mound on crackers.

Do you have a collection of empty votive glasses?  They are perfect for individual parfaits…homemade or purchased pudding layered with fresh fruit and topped with whipped cream is a perfect sweet ending.

Whatever your reason for celebrating, there is nothing that lightens the spirit like a few hours spent with good friends enjoying a delicious cocktail!
