This is the dessert addition of Five O’Clock Friday!  A dessert that is a also a cocktail just can not be wrong!

These flavors  are so delicious there is just no need to mess them up with a lot of added ingredients.  I was tempted to name this cocktail The KISS___you know “Keep it Simple Stupid”.   You can pour your liquor and coffee over the ice cream and sip slowly as the ice cream melts, or you can dig right in with a spoon if you are an instant gratification sort of person.


These three ingredients simply create a near perfect dessert.  Of course they would be nothing wrong with adding a sprinkle of shaved chocolate, a brandied cherry, or even better, some chopped hazelnut praline.  I am pretty sure that wouldn’t hurt a thing.

To make the praline, heat  ½ cup sugar in a heavy skillet over medium heat,stirring until melted.  Swirl pan, without stirring until sugar is golden.  Add 1 cup toasted hazelnuts and stir until coated.  Pour onto parchment lined baking sheet and cool.  Break into pieces or grind in food processor to desired consistency.  Store at room temperature in an airtight container.  Enjoy as a delicious treat or as a topping for any dessert.

Hazelnut Praline Sundae
  • 2 small scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 1 shot espresso coffee
  • 1 shot Hazelnut Liqueur
  • crushed hazelnut praline, optional
  1. Pur the espresso and liqueur over the ice cream. Top with crushed praline if desired.

OK, that was just too easy, wasn’t it?  So, I feel compelled to throw in an extra dessert cocktail this week.  Equally as simple and just as irresistible.

Either would be a perfect way to end a meal, or just provide a well deserved treat.

Hazelnut Praline Cocktail
  • 1 ounce hazelnut liqueur
  • 1 ounce butterscotch schnapps
  • ¼ ounce dark creme de cacao
  • ½ ounce half & half
  • crushed hazelnut praline, optional
  1. Moisten rim of a cocktail glass and dip in crushed hazelnut praline iif desired.
  2. Pour liqueur, schnapps, and creme de cacao over ice. Add half & half.
