Welcome Home

4220 welcome home

This week’s post is completely personal. It is for our Welcome Home fragrance. There are few things that can fill you with more joy than having a loved one that you haven’t see for a long time, return to share time with you. You want to create all of the delicious treats that will bring back memories. You want your house filled with fragrance that surrounds that loved one with comfort and a sense of well being.

Our youngest son has been abroad serving our country and we have been unable to see him for over 4 years. It is wonderful that with email, facebook, and Skype we certainly have many opportunities to stay in touch, but it cannot replace the joy of sitting across the table from a much missed child.

The journey is as satisfying as the destination on this drink. You can buy great apple cider reductions. But if you decide to make your own, your home will be filled with an intoxicating aroma. Just heat some unfiltered apple cider in a saucepan just to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer until reduced to 1/4 – 1/8 of its volume, about 2 hours.  You can add some cinnamon sticks and whole cloves to your simmering brew if you want a spiced version.   Place the resulting syrup in a covered jar and refrigerate. Besides this delicious cocktail, it is great on ice cream, pancakes, ham or anywhere you want a kiss of fall flavor.

Welcome Home
  • 1½ ounces Bourbon or Whiskey
  • 1½ teaspoons honey
  • 2 ounces Apple Cider Syrup
  • 1 slice fresh lemon
  1. Combine the bourbon and honey in a cocktail glass. Stir to dissolve the honey. Add ice to the glass and pour in the cider syrup. Stir.
  2. Squeeze the lemon into the drink and drop in.

To serve with your Welcome Home Cocktail, pull out your favorite family traditions. In our house it will be a pot of bubbling cheese fondue served in front of the fireplace with some hot puff pastry wrapped olives.

I hope you have someone very special to share this drink with during the upcoming Holiday season.
